As far as the fridge went, we just loaded everything in coolers and set them outside. Everything stayed frozen!
One night, I cooked dinner on the grill outside. The fire from the grill was the only light I could see on the entire street. We had a battery operated tv, but one night after the batteries had died, my wife and I hooked to the cigarette lighter in the car and watched "24".
I remember one evening, we went out to eat, and the people at the table next to us were complaining that they were inconvenienced that since the storm, their cable was not working! ARE YOU KIDDING!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

We thought later how much better it would have been if we HAD been home as we could have salvaged all the food from the freezer! It would have been cold enough to have stored it outside! And we would have eaten very well while without electricity (we use the grill at such times, too).
We have a battery operated tv, as well, and have resorted to the car as a "theatre" at times, too! LOLOLOL
My oh my. Hope we don't have to deal with something like this again - EVER!!!
