30-45 minutes from the lake is almost everything in 2 counties. You can be almost anywhere, but $600/month could put you in some sketchy areas as well. You could check into Lake Wylie, SC or even Rock Hill/Fort Mill as alternatives. If you must be near lake Norman, Statesville may be your best bet in that price range.

And, as said previously, pet deposits can be substantial depending on breed and size. Many property owners are not allowing dogs that are considered dangerous breeds anymore. Just an FYI.

Check out Marina Shores, it's located in Cornelius directly on the lack. 3 Years ago I moved in there around this time of year and our rent was under $650 per month.

Let me save you a lot of frustration. You won't find anything "on the lake" for $600. There aren't even any apartments "on the lake" in Denver. Mooresville has some, but you'll need to pony up more than $600 (rent only). If you mean NEAR the lake (as in half mile or more away) you find MANY more options around Mooresville.

BTW, the difference between Mooresville and Denver is night and day. Lots of traffic, retail, suburbia, national chain stores (Mooresville) vs sleepy, rural, very little retail or decent dining (Denver).

^Denver has two advantages. It's a much easier commute to Charlotte via Hwy 16. The west side of the lake is less congested if you like to boat.

While there are not apartment complexes on the west side of the lake that I know of, there are numerous condo developments where it might be possible to find a small condo that rents in this price range. I'd check with a real estate agent or similar.
