2. More focus on reading (more tests to validate this)
3. Overall Math proficiency level higher compared to previous years.. great news

5. Asians have the least amount of dropout rate (less than 5 kids)
6. Elementary school performances are so-so ok-ok..Schools in south seems to be faring better than middle/east/west of charlotte

Bad news
0. Quality of schools across the county has dropped from 2009-2012. Around 8% drop in schools coming up short of their goals. Only 44.8% met ALL their AMOs
1.Still extremely high dropout rate (from K to 12).. Almost 1400~ kids dropout even now. Largest dropout number in NC (2nd is Wake county)
2.Blacks and Hispanics continue to under-perform in Maths/Science/English compared to White/Asians
3.Family Income pays a big role in under-performing children
4.There seems to be extreme ignorance towards Maths/Science from Black & hispanic kids (Very low level of test pass-outs)
5. Blacks are majority in dropouts. 800 Blacks and 200 Hispanics and White population of around 250 dropped out last year.
6 Roughly 35000 short term suspensions in schools. 77% of these are attributed to black students (both male and female)
All in all, CMS has a long way to go to be considered a Premier School District inside NC , let alone inside this country.
It all boils down to parents !! Active parents lead to active kids.
Annual Measurable Objectives (AMO) – North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) will no longer designate each school as having met or not met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Instead, NCDPI will identify a number of Annual Measureable Objectives (AMOs) and report on the number of targets a school has met as well as the percentage of targets met.
