Hello all,
I will be living and working near s.tryon in the 28217 radius of Charlotte. I wanted to get a sense of whether that is a decent area? I have no idea what areas are considered 'problem areas'. I will be living fairly close to a police academy but Im not sure if that matters or when it comes to crime stats. Lastly, is this area considered sw clt, south east or south clt?? Please help!

No , that is not a bad area. Granted , there will be those who will steer you to the area bordered by 485 to the south , Providence to the east , Park Road to the west , and downtown to the north , but when you arrive , judge it for yourself. That area is Southwest Charlotte.

I lived in SW charlotte - not far from there off of Clanton Road. I thought it was a nice place to live and I never had any trouble with crime. That's not to say there isn't crime happening, but not explicitly moreso than any other areas in the city. You should always just keep your wits about you no matter where you are in a city.

I agree that you should see for yourself when you get there - there are certainly more upscale and traditionally more desirable places to live (typically to the west of 28217), but I found my area of the city to be really convenient and I bet you will too.
