As someone who has been carfree for decades (now holding an expired drivers license), I am looking to discover where I can live the carfree/or-carlight lifestyle that want to have, rather than adopting mt lifestyle conform with what the average person does in CLT/Davidson.
The possibilities are endless if it's carlight. I was under the impression you wanted to be totally car free.

If a family has kids who have after school activities there is no way to live car free without putting your kid at a disadvantage. My family was car free for most of my childhood. It wasn't fun asking for rides to practice and feeling like a charity case. My sister called me recently just to reflect on how hard we had it growing up without a car and how she couldn't imagine doing so today.

Could they? Probably. But the drawbacks wouldn't be worth it for, and I'm obviously guessing here, 99% of them. If you are talking about the second family car, then that number could fall significantly.

I think a larger determining factor - more so than the right neighborhood - would actually be whether or not they had kids. For me, it'd be 100-times easier to make the adjustment if I didn't have any. Unfortunately they didn't put the daycare/gymnastics class/Target/Dr's office/Discovery Place Kids/Nature Center all at the bottom of my street

Edit: Felt, you type faster than I do

(PS - curious if you are planning to ask this question of every town/city in NC.....and perhaps SC..........maybe GA? I thought at one juncture you had written off the "sea" coast.................opening up my subscribed forums is taking on shades of "Where's Waldo?" or "Where in the South is Geologic" - Not finding fault, bless your heart. Living without a car, cow, concubine, etc has weighed heavily on philosophers throughout the centuries.... )[/quote]

I have to defend Geologic for asking the same question of every town ~~ yes, what's wrong with that? Each town is different yet the seeker's criteria are the same, I'm still looking for the best place to live so I target an area, ask the same questions (farmers markets? walkable? affordable? etc. etc.) for each one. Each city has it's own forum and audience, so it's just common sense to ask the same things all over. I'm curious why you are reading posts all over the place?
