Bridges at Mint Hill mall waits for road plans | Matthews - Mint Hill Weekly

Work on the mall can begin as early as the end of this year, or the beginning of the next. Right now, they are trying to secure funds from the state to help widen Lawyers road from I-485 to Bain School road, along with a roundabout. If the plan goes through this time, this will finally be the flagship mall of east Mecklenburg and west Union county (especially after the fall of Eastland, the decline of the Monroe mall and the shelved plans for an outlet mall near I-485 in Stallings). I should also note that this would be the first fully open-air mall in North Carolina (The Streets at Southpoint in Durham is a hybrid indoor and outdoor mall).

Here's some images of what the outdoor portion of Southpoint looks like, to give you a possible feel as to what the Bridges at Mint Hill might look like:

Also, here is the only concept art I can find of the mall (please note that this is dated, and the overall look can change):

Is this mall suppose to have mall-like stores like The Streets at Southpoint or bix-box stores like Best Buy/Marshalls, ect?

I've noticed Southpoint has a couple of luxury tenants on their list and I think that's the way to go for this specific project.

Also, I think Alamance Crossing is completely outdoor.

From what we know, the mall will lean more towards the former. I don't know know how upscale this mall will be, but I feel like it will be somewhere in between Carolina Place/Northlake and SouthPark mall. I hear Belk is still committed to being one of the three major tenants at the mall.

Mayfaire Towne Center in Wilmington is totally open-air and a wonderful shopping center...

I like the layout of the Bridges..with the parking behind and what looks to be a "main street" in the center, so you could park once and walk to the stores...If only the layouts at Arboreturm and Stonecrest were that way!!
