My sister got a spider bite on her buttocks, doesn't know what kind of spider, they were on vacation here in the mountains of NC. But after treating it with cortisone cream etc., for several months, maybe over a year now, she says it never completely goes away. It returns and gets itchy and oozes if not treated with cortisone, then it goes away again. She hasn't been to a doc because she's up north and figures they don't know about spiders up there. lol!

I would check-in with the doc if you see anything out of the ordinary. I would have requested a tetanus shot, but that's just me and most people don't think about it (I am due a booster shot).

I can't imagine why the bug guy did not spray the crawl space. That was plain lazy, IMHO, and irresponsible.

I've spent a majority of my life here in NC and yes, Brown Recluse bites, though rare, have shown them to be here in NC regardless of what the charts show or wikipedia for that matter.

For those of you that hate spiders, use peppermint oil. Buy a sprayer, fill with water and 10-15 drops of the oil. Spray the entry / exit ways around the house with it along with areas that may be damp and dark or could be used as a point of entry for them. All spiders, not just the Recluse, hate it. If you have a major crack in your walls or foundation where they may be getting in, instead of just spraying the area, put a few drops on some cotton balls and stuff them in the cracks.

They use to constantly build webs out on my deck. Now they go elsewhere. Classic crime displacement.

If you have a major crack in your walls or foundation its time for a trip to Lowes for a tube of caulk.
