Okay, I know I am going to show my ignorance, as "shrimp chips" must be a regional favorite somewhere . . . but I have no clue . . . can you fill us in?
Shrimp chips kind of look like potato chips. But they feel more like styrofoam, like what you might use to pack something fragile. They can be a pinkish or brownish color, or sometimes with the addition of food coloring they can be multi-colored. Over the years, people I've known have either loved them or can't stand them. I happen to love them, but I don't eat them very often. Maybe once or twice a year. In a restaurant they're usually just one flavor, and that is a shrimp flavor. In stores that carry them, you can usually find three or four different flavors, similar to potato chip flavors like BBQ or onion and garlic. They also come in the form of crackers. They're all very good in my opinion.
My (Caucasian) little girls LOVE them; but I can't stand the smell of them! We find them in the Asian food section of our local grocery store (Ralph's) - but we're still in L.A. Nice to know I will be able to find them for my kids once we relocate
