I am loving Charlotte so far :-) is south blvd a safe way to get to uptown from ballantyne? I have had some issues with the highway in the past so wanted to check as I know I can take this road all the way to uptown. Coming from chicago I just don't knwo where the rougher areas are here.

Thanks for all of your help so far, we are loving the area!

there are other options besides taking South Blvd that you may want to consider

Park Road - Johnston Rd turns into Park Road just past 51

Providence Road - easily accessible from Ballantyne via either Ballantyne Commons Parkway and Ardrey Kell Road

Johnston is super close to me. Is south blvd not a great idea?

South Blvd can be frustrating as you will have more drivers slowing down to pull into the shopping centers along the route.

No matter which route, it will probably take better part of 45 mins to go from Ballantyne to Uptown. During rush hour, traffic can be especially bad at certain intersections crossing Fairview, Tyvola, and Queens Rd.

You can take 485 and merge onto 77 into Uptown, which takes about 21 minutes excluding rush hour traffic.

If you are close to Johnston which might get backed up, you can also take Lancaster Hwy which turns into South Blvd OR turn on 51 from Lancaster and take Park Road and take it going to uptown. That's how I go if Providence is backed up.

Thank you! And all of those are not in bad areas? Idk where any of the bad areas are around here which makes me a little nervous and have heard there are some areas to stay away from.

The routes I mentioned aren't as far as I know. South Blvd is a looooong street full of strip malls and not very pretty but I have never felt unsafe. I have gone all up and down this street and hadn't had an issue personally. Granted I don't drive at night so take what I post with a grain of salt. Some of my favorite stores and restaurants are on this street.

Unless you are one of those people who likes to park and walk around at 3AM or curses at strangers at stop lights you should be fine driving around Charlotte.
