My fiance and I are trying to find a home to rent. He works as a manager at a food venue and I currently live off of an inheritance. Everywhere we have spoken with refuses to rent to is because we don't bring home more than 3x the required rent. We are required to move out of where we've been staying very soon and I'm terrified we won't be able to find a place to go. He brings home about $800 a month and my payouts are $5000 every 6 months. We also have 0 credit history and 0 rental history. Does anyone know of a company that might be able to help us out?
Well, that was a repy worthy of the "Observer Comments".
For the OP, usually rental management wants to see that rent stays within about 40% of income, which sounds like $650 in your case. That doesn't leave much selection in Mecklenburg county other than very old apartments and probably 1 BR / studios at that.
I'm renting a 1 BR in south Charlotte for $840 and there is a service fee for water and trash of $30. It's a middle of the road complex, I could shave $50 off that by living a few miles away or pay $50 a month more for something classier.
You will have some problems getting a good place with your situation. Pretty much every landlord I know of is doing background checks now and want to see steady income of about 3x rent. Even the private owners. As silly as some might see the "get a job" comment, it is actually good advice. An unemployed prospective tenant is always going to seem like a gamble. That kind of gamble rarely works in favor of the landlord.

I agree Spankys bbq. I wasn't trying to be snarky with the 'get a job' comment.
Why are you being required to move out of where you're staying right now? Can your current landlord help with recommendations/suggestions of where to move to?
