My husband and I are considering a move to Florida. The reason we are looking is we would like to move somewhere warm and are also looking at the cost savings for college the state schools could offer. We have a 15, 13 & 2 year old so schools at all grade levels are important to us. We will be coming to visit different areas but my initial research has me interested in possibly Pinellas County-ie. Palm Harbor & Tarpon Springs. We like to be outdoors and are looking for a family community/subdivision that is convenient (ie: close to shopping, movies, restaurants...) With my current job/experience I should be able to transfer to an area of our choice. I would greatly appreciate any info you could share. Our price range is between 300k-400k. We could go a bit higher to $450k but would prefer not to. We would be open to other areas of Florida as well.

I thought you were moving to Charlotte? Palm Harbor is nice, Tarpon Springs is a bit older but also more charming. Have you considered Pasco County? A bit further north, but still a relatively easy drive to the beach and lower priced that Pinellas. I lived in Wesley Chapel and loved it...it's all relatively new, very transient so it's easy for the kids to make friends, tons of brand new shopping, movies and restaurants and great schools. There's also the Wesley Chapel Athletic Association if the kids are into sports. The Wiregrass Mall was just built a few years ago and has all the shopping you could want. Good luck!

Thanks again for getting back to me. Could you please let me know what your thoughts are on the schools in Wesley Chapel? I am particularly interested in the high schools.

Many people move to Wesley Chapel (FL) specifically to get into WCHS, great school, great community. Much like in Charlotte people consider Fort Mill for the great schools and lower taxes, it's the same situation in the Tampa area with Wesley Chapel (Pasco County)

Hope this helps some...but agreed, you just happened to find a local Realtor that knows both the Charlotte and Tampa markets....you'll get a much better response in the proper forum.

I know. Thank you. I posted here by mistake and don't know how to delete. I reposted a similar question in a different FL forum. I appreciate your help. I noticed some of the homes we are looking at go to Wiregrass Ranch High School. It appears to also be a good school. I've gotten some advice that Palm Harbor would be a better area for schools and convenience but the costs may be too high for us.

Palm Harbor is nice - but so far from the interstate. I like the easy access to I75 that Wesley Chapel affords....kind of like why I like Fort Mill, SC. You know, in case of zombie apocalypse or what have you.
