Rent in the new tower, called 1 Vanderbilt, will be much more expensive than it would be here.
What can we do to attract more banking business here?
TD Bank could be main tenant in new 65-story NYC tower | New York Post

I would think that TD chose NY because of proximity (Toronto -> NY vs. Toronto-> CLT) and because no one from Charlotte tried to present them the advantages of bringing their business to CLT.

We cannot do too much to attract business here (banking or not banking are great !) but, I guess, Charlotte Chamber of Commerce could (Charlotte Chamber ) , also some people at City Council (Economic Development Areas : Economic Development Focus Area).

I am more interested in what happened to Chiquita.

I understand corporate has made some statements about reimbursing tax concessions . . . that was unexpected. Made me want a banana.
