IMO, it's one of the most interesting and educational places in Charlotte. How your kids will feel about it depends a lot on their ages and how well they read. But then some of the photos along with a patient, knowledgeable parent are worth a million .......

If you haven't already been to Discovery Place, remember that it will close for renovations in the near future, so you may try to get it in too.

For kids I would recommend Discovery Place. It's a more intteractive science museum. Moseum of the New South is good for older kids. DP won't be closing until Han 2009 I believe and it will be for about a year.

Hey thanks for the responses, and thanks to you too Loves for the PM , yeah I'm familiar with Discovery Place, I used to take them too the one in Ft Lauderdale.

My girls are 13 and 11 and they are both pretty mature for there age, so we'll be giving the Museum a try. Thanks again.

If you haven't ventured off, I would recommend DP and the Body Worlds exhibit which will end next week. If your kids are mature, they will enjoy it and learn a lot as we did.

Once you've visited Museum of the New South, make a visit to the Charlotte Museum of History, which explores earlier Charlotte history - starting with early settlement up through the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Hezekiah Alexander homesite is also there, so you can tour the oldest house in Charlotte with a guide in 18th century costume (tours are at 1:15 and 3:15). The combination of the two museums gives a great insight into how Charlotte became the way it is today. Enjoy your visits!

My son was recently in Charlotte to see Body Works. He is a medical student. I really enjoy the Mint Museum. It is very good with some wonderful 17th and 18th century (and much earlier) paintings. They also have a featured display most of the time. The museum is quite huge and worth the trip.
