I realize I may sound like a cheapskate here, but are there any free places to park near the airport? I'm picking my mother up later today and I forgot the hourly lots are closed still, I know you can wait in the cell phone lots, but do you think I could get away with leaving my car there unattended for lets say 15 to 20 mins? Or should I just suck it up and pay the 5 bucks and ride the bus from Long Term? I realize paying to get my car out of an impound lot isn't cheap, and my mother would probably beat my hind end for putting her through that after a 9 hour flight. But considering I'm on this forum it wouldn't hurt to ask in case anyone here has gotten away with leaving your can unattended for a bit. I know they have a tow truck literally on standby at the departures gate, but would they do the same in the lots? I'm curious.

Seems silly to "pick her up" and then make her ride the shuttle to get to your car. Why not just pick her up from the terminal if you don't want to pay to park?

Why would you leave your car unattended in the cell phone lot? There is literally no where you can walk from there. You park the car and wait for your mom to call and drive out of the lot and get her at arrivals. They don't care how long you sit in your car as long as you are in the car.

OP here-she wouldn't mind riding the shuttle, I want to help her with her luggage on the belt. She's coming in from Belgium and she did not bring her cell phone because she can't use it over there anyways. So the cell phone lot would not work. I don't mind paying five bucks for parking, I was just curious about if there were any "secret" free spots. I found out that you could park free in some areas uptown during the day via this site and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask about the airport.

I appreciate the advice, but at the same time, she's not a primadonna, she just came from Europe and had to ride the train with her mom to get to where she was staying, she can handle a shuttle bus.

Park directly in front of the terminal, take your remote off, lock the door, and keep the car running. Oh my you're cheap lol. You must not live in Charlotte. I've never seen a city where you had to pay to park anywhere from Southend-uptown from parking meters to parking decks. The last time I saw free parking it was behind a ABC store, which is 6 parking spots. Someone got off the city bus and tried to steal a UNLOCKED car directly in front of me, they got scared when the alarm came on and hauled ass.

I could be wrong...but I'm pretty sure there's hourly rates for the Daily Garage. It's $10 per day, but I believe it's less if you're only there for a few hours.

It's YOUR MOTHER! Pay to park across from the terminal and greet her at the gate with flowers. Get your car cleaned...even put in one of those pine tree scent thingees. Clean your bedroom and how about shavin' every once in a while...
