I am desperately looking for a town around Charlotte that has a true community feel. By that I mean people get involved, get to know each other, spend time around the town, etc. I also love to be able to walk/bike to schools, library, some retail, coffee shop etc. I'm asking about Belmont (town of) because it looks like it is in good commuting distance to my husband's new work which will be located a little south of the airport. I'm not used to subdivisions (we currently live in a historic neighborhood) but would consider one if it had a tight community feel and the other criteria mentioned above. Any feedback, suggestions are appreciated.
Oh, and we need a 3+ bedroom home for under $325 if possible. Schools are important but I do understand that parental involvement means everything and sometimes if you have a portion of the community that is below poverty line, etc. that will bring the rating down (that is what our city suffers from).

The towns west of Charlotte all are "real" towns. The towns have events, people interact, etc. .Traffic is lighter west of Charlotte. For schools look at Belmont, Cramerton, & Kings Mountain. Second tier would be the SE quadrant of Gastonia. You should be able to find something in your price range with no problem. In Kings Mountain East Elementary was named a Blue Ribbon school a few years ago & West Elementary was named a Blue Ribbon school this year.
There is a community right off Union Road in Gastonia called Rosegate that has community walking trails, a beautiful park in the middle and its right off Gaston Day School Road- very great neighborhood feel to this place. It is new construction- built by Ryan Homes, and it would be in your price range. Love this community.
