Old thread, but I was hoping you could explain more about what constitutes true Cotswold. Where are the boundaries? Google maps shows it as being bordered by McAlway, Sharon Amity, Providence and Craig Ave. Is this right?

Keep in mind that the boundaries are not exact. Also, Cotswold has different sections with varying home prices just like Myers Park, Dilworth, Southpark, etc.

One section of Cotswold is bordered by N. Sharon Amity Rd., Providence Rd, S. Wendover Rd and Randolph Road. (This section is higher priced homes for the most part).

Another section is bordered by Randolph Rd., Wendover Rd., Walker Rd. and N. Sharon Amity.

BUT there are areas within these boundaries that are much less desirable than others and areas that are not typically called Cotswold. (Vernon Drive is not Cotswold, Beal Street is not Cotswold, etc.)

So is the Sherwood Forest neighborhood east of Sharon Amity considered Cotswold?

What about the neighborhood called Randolph Park between Providence Baptist Church and the mall?

Is Shasta at the bottom of the Randolph road between Rama/Sardis and Sharon Amity considered Cotswold?

Those areas are not Cotswold however, they are in the 'Cotswold' area.

Thanks. It's funny to learn that an area can be called something and be considered that area but not be part of it.

Not at all unusual. You mentioned Sherwood Forest and Randolph Park. If you lived in either of those you would tell people you live in Sherwood Forest or Randolph Park. If they didn't know where you were talking about and you said the Cotswold area they would know your general area. 'Cotswold' proper is a designated development with boundaries however, there are a number of different sections within Cotswold with varying styles, ages and price ranges.

As another example 'Southpark' is not a designated neighborhood. There are subdivisions located in the Southpark area each with their own neighborhood boundaries.

That's probably why, when Creative Loafing wrote about Common Market looking to expand to other neighborhoods, they said CM had posted an online survey in "the Oakhurst neighborhood, in Cotswold." And I was like... huh? Probably because Cotswold has the name recognition so people don't need to google Oakhurst to figure out it's on Monroe Rd, next to Cotswold.

Oahkhurst is amazing, btw. Great housing stock, good neighborhood (magnet) school, and having lots of future Capital improvements done in it soon by the city (like a Monroe Rd streetscape project from Elizabeth, down to Sharon Amity Rd.)

Agree about Oakhurst being somewhat of a hidden gem at the moment. Some great value for homes with mature trees, large lots and a fairly central location in town. No offense to any posters prefering the suburbs, but I would much rather be in that neighborhood with a fully renovated/updated home with mature trees and character like Oakhurst for 250k vs. moving out to bland farmland and fighting more traffic everyday. To each their own.

It will be interesting to see if some of the defunct retail will flip 180 degrees to serve the neighborhood since access was quarantined off by the transition of Independence to a freeway. It would make sense to me from a business standpoint, but I would understand resistance if the nearby neighbors don't want the extra traffic.

The blighted Coliseum strip mall, right next to the new Wal-Mart, should be torn down and new apartments/retail stores should turn their back to Independence and become a "town center" of sorts. That should happen everywhere possible along indepenence. This right-turn-in, right-turn-out business is dangerous, and a waste. But the neighborhood would have to dedicate one of their streets to be the thoroughfare to get to it, so they may not want it in the first place.
