Amazon will open for business next week at Concord Airport Business Park, and the online retail giant will begin hiring 150 to 200 people in January, Concord Mayor Scott Padgett said.
Seattle, Wash.-based Amazon will operate a 225,500-square-feet "sortation center" that could eventually employ up to 300.

I love amazon. I probably average a purchase a week from them. But I've heard they're a terrible company to work for. You're on your feet all day, you have virtually no lunch break, and every second of your day is kept track of.

Yup. You're literally tracked via GPS. Your bathroom breaks also count against you.

I don't really see a problem with that. Employers expect workers to be productive and by tracking the workers in this way, they know who is and is not productive.

Seems like a good way to weed out lazy people to me.

"Having conceived Babel, yet unable to build it themselves, they had thousands to build it for them. But those who toiled knew nothing of the dreams of those who planned. And the minds that planned the Tower of Babel cared nothing for the workers who built it. The hymns of praise of the few became the curses of the many - BABEL! BABEL! BABEL! - Between the mind that plans and the hands that build there must be a Mediator, and this must be the heart." - Maria (Metropolis - 1927)

It is known that Amazon receives low profit, so it understandable they need proficient workers in these distribution centers.

Imo they could test and use their drone technology to do the sorting of packages into bins. Hire enough workers to load and unload the trucks, manage the package moving drones, workers to address and sort the packages with errors.
