Originally my husband was going to transfer to Raleigh NC. We liked area alot went a couple times . But we ruled out because of schools. The districting just wasnt for us. No quarantee your child will go to school near thier house or with the same kids in area you live. Wanted to know , not if schools r over crowded but do you get assigned schools by county or location etc. R the schools all same schedule or half yr round half tradional. Also this might be harder to answer and we will be checking it out ourselves also but I have a type 1 diabetic 12 yr old. Would it matter if we picked fort mill or concord health care wise. Is the pediatric care same in both areas or is one have a better reputation. Or would I need to go into Charlotte for best care. Thanks in advance p.s. not putting down Raleigh just wasnt what we decided would be best for us. We will not be able to visit Charlotte till Spring but my husband has flown down for business a couple times before.

Like in the Raleigh area, school districts are county wide. The assignments are done by home address. It is subject to redistricting, but it's not as confusing as Wake County can initially be. No year round options in the mix, and no capping out of home schools. You can check home schools for any CMS address here: GeoPortal .

I can't speak to the health care, but Concord and Fort Mill are both well developed suburbs. I don't think you'd have to rule them out.

I can speak for schools in Concord. It's by county which is Cabarrus and by neighborhood. Your neighborhood will be zoned for a specific school within Cabarrus County. All schools in Cabarrus are traditional. For healthcare you will be just fine in Concord. Great pediatricians and specialists.

Even if you did live in Fort Mill. (If your jobs are there) You can still go into Charlotte for doctors/specialists etc. You would be fine in either city. Where generally would your husband be working at?
