I am looking at building a home in Skybrook with Bonterra. Does anyone have any experience with them? We were given a builders contract and my husband and I have been going back and forth about having an attorney look at it (I think yes, he thinks maybe). We do have a Buyers Agent, but I am not entirely comfortable without attorney review. I know my husband thinks that time is critical and we may miss out on 'incentives' or what not, but I think the lawyer is worth it. Anyway, long way of asking for any experience, good or bad, with these builders. Thank you in advance.

Laurie

Their builder contract is one of the worst I have ever laid my eyes on. It favors the builder and protects them to the fullest extent.

I was personally interested in an inventory home they have and emailed a copy of the contract over to the real estate attorney I work with. He advised me against using their contract or even doing business with them based on the language contained in it.

Can you give examples? I am interested in moving to Millbridge community in Waxhaw and Bonterra was the builder that I checked out and their homes looked good.

The joker that owns Bonterra once owned his own cable company and made buyers use his cable company, would not allow TWC into his neighborhoods! He even put it in HOA covenants that required EVERY homeowner to pay as part of their HOA dues...CABLE subscriptions whether they had the cable or not! My understanding is that he sold the cable outfit to TWC a few years ago.

Let me just say this as nicely as I can...don't worry about getting an attorney to check the contract, RUN REAL FAST. You DO NOT want to do business with this company. If you do and I am wrong, let me know.

Well I know if you have an issue and have to speak to anyone after house the treat you horrible. The owner and the super has no people skills and no customer service interests.

I have a friend who also thought about building a home with them and said the exact same thing about the contract - it's builder biased but to an extreme.
