What modem do you all recommend for replacing the TWC cable modem? I need one that has the telephone jack because I have internet & phone through TWC.
To the OP, I hooked up my own wireless router to TWC's modem.
If you have the phone through TWC they will provide the router free for just the phone. You can provide your own DOCSIS 3.0 modem for internet and avoid the monthly fee.
As other have said, you can certainly use your own equipment. Like WaldoKitty, I purchased a Motorola SURFboard SB 6141 cable modem which connects directly to my router. Works great and no rental fee. If you do purchase your own modem, make sure its one that's approved by Time Warner. The 6141 is. Motorola's tech support was awesome during my only call to them. Signals were too high at the modem. Time Warner sent a tech to resolve issue and I've been a happy camper for over a year.
You can disable the router functionality in time warner's equipment. Just do a Google search. You'd want to put it in pass-through mode and you'd still be paying the rental fee. Purchase your own it'll pay for itself in less than a year.
FYI, once you buy your own cable modem. I had to call TWC and tell them about the change and give them all these addresses. So, do it during the day when support is available to you.
This thread is kind of old but wanted to ask if anyone has info on what the best Cable Modem is to buy to replace my TW? Sure technology has done nothing but get better since this thread was started.

Best is subjective as I don't know your end game like how many devices, what type of service.
Time Warner provides you a compatibility list.
Keep in mind if your internet acts wacky after return, your responsible for any repair cost.
Also your responsible for setting it up.

Best to stick with the most reliable ones like the DOCSIS 3.0 Arris Surboards
Get one that will match the speed you have coming from TWC, do not buy ones with built in Wireless stick to stand alone routers. Takes 5 mins to setup these days, most of the time can be done online with no interaction with TWC.
