Anyone had any experience staying here? It looks fairly nice and close to most of the uptown bars/restaurants.

Also any info for a couple of 20 year olds to check out in uptown would be great?

Thanks

It is a decent location, not much around it in the immediate area but not far bars and restaurants. I parked there during the car show in Dec and there is construction happening in the building or next to it. Probably a good economical choice. Your about 1 block from a blue line transit stop should you like to venture outside the loop.

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn last week while visiting Charlotte...nice hotel, but a short drive from everything in Uptown. Not a big deal because parking was not difficult to find though.

It is fine, however stay at the Holiday Inn Center City (230 N. College St.).

Perfect location. ALL the Uptown bars are like within 1-2 blocks (several across the street).

It is adequate for visiting and going clubbing. Can't beat the location!

Thanks everyone for your input.

So how far from most of the main bars and restaurants from Hilton Garden Inn? I'll be there for Friday night. It is just going to be a couple mid 20 year old guys looking for a cool place to hang out and checking out the area.

Just a few blocks. MLK Blvd used to be 2nd St and most bars are between 5th and 7th (though not all of them). There is the Gold Rush shuttle which is free and runs loops around uptown all day. You can buy a day pass for the light rail due and that runs til 1:30 am.

If you walk from the Hilton up College St. You will cross the places groove mentioned. You will know you are in the area due to their is more people in that area at night. It about a 10 minute walk.

I also recommend SoHo restaurent on College St. A very affordable nice chinese restaurant.

You are 3-8 blocks from lots of bars. There is a cluster of bars around college and 7th. I would recommend picking up a Creative Loafing Magazine when you arrive. Its the main Entertainment/Alternative(?) Rag, there is also a magazine dedicated primarily to downtown but I forget the name. It should be available where ever creative loafing is. There are also options in South End just off the light rail, if it gets too late a cab ride home is pretty cheap.

Edit to add:
Give us a report on your trip when you get home. We would like to hear what your impressions of CLT are!

If you stick around, Saturday at noon UNC-Charlotte will be playing Maryland at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Tickets are $20-25.

We are actually flying into RDU the Wednesday before and going to see NC State vs. Georgia Tech, so not sure if we are going to attend another basketball game.

Thanks for the notice though, we just plan on checking out Charlotte Friday and Saturday, and of course going out Friday night. Who knows though, we could end up seeing another game.
