Hi All,

Can someone tell me on an average how much is the property tax in Mecklenburg or other parts of Charlotte?

I looked at the following link - 2013-2014 Tax Rates

and it came to 1.3% as property tax. Is this really the tax rate? I find this to be low or am I looking at wrong numbers?

I am thinking of moving up to NC and just seeing the tax and mortgage payments to factor in while negotiating a salary for a job. Please advise.

How much will a 3 bedroom/2 bath town-home or single-family home cost in an area where there are good schools and close to grocery etc?

Thanks!

Yes and depending on where you live, you have city taxes and garbage and misc fees.

On a 200K house, it ends up being about $2600 on average in Charlotte proper.

It's not that low when you have no mortgage (paid it off early) and you have to write a check for the entire amount when the tax collector sends the bill.

Yes that is correct. It's that amount each year. If you are coming from a high tax region such as the NE it will seem low.

for a 3/2 home in a good area with good schools you are talking 200k plus for new construction or 175-200k for a nice existing older home....

As the schools get higher rated, so do the prices. There are still values to be found, but they don't stay on the market long.

Correct on property tax... 1.3% or so

Thank you all, I have been looking at Chicago as well and there I know the property taxes are very high so just wasn't sure.
The following is the calculation for "take-home" pay I am using to find a job here in NC:
Annual Compensation minus the following:

State tax - 8%
Social Security and Medicare = 7.2%
Fed tax = 30%

Is this a good estimation?

Thanks!

Are you saying that the tax is high when you have paid off your mortgage? Shouldn't it be the same?
