My husband and I are making a trip to Asheville in a few weeks and would like to find a good camp ground - we will be in Asheville and then right past the border of TN...we love to camp next to a river but it's not a necessity - any suggestions for us?!

More information? Are you going to pitch a tent? What level of bathroom amenities do you require? You're looking for somewhere between Asheville and Tenn?

BTW, I have asked the moderator to move this to the Western NC Board, since that's the appropriate location.

Here are some existing threads that might help:

Davidson River Campground @ Pisgah National Forest. We love it there - and it's by a river. Not a deep river, just a small stream that gets a bit deep in areas to swim. It's so beautiful there - it's also within minutes from the most beautiful waterfalls I've ever seen.

What type of camping are you looking for? RV/Camper? Car? Back country?

Map of Free Camping Areas | Go Camping for Free! is a listing of various no-fee and usually no-amenity sites around the country; with many along the Blue Ridge and in the national forests.

Ncparks.gov - you can check out the parks and reserve campsites online.

some of the other campsites are run by the us forest service and us parks department. You can check out their websites as well.
