Hi to all on this Forum,

You have all been so helpful to me since I moved here from Maryland in November. I LOVE it here! I learn so much about my new home area thanks to the informative and good information found here. Perhaps some of you could help me find a great hiking area.

I live near Ft Mill and I am looking for a safe, convenient place to do a daily long run/hike/walk. I prefer a course that is around 4 miles long (or longer!)and measured miles would be helpful. Mixed terrain would be ideal as would a stream, pretty scenery and groomed trails. I am willing to drive a bit to find the right spot but closer would be better, of course. I know many of you enjoy the benefits of outdoor running/hiking and I would be so grateful for any advice on this.

Many thanks to all of you who read this.

Welcome to Charlotte! My neighbors triathlon a lot and train for the IronMan (?). We live in Fort Mill...I'll find out from them where you can find what you're looking for and will send you a PM when I do.

Glad you are liking your new environment!

I'm assuming you've already tried the Anne Springs Close Greenway? If I lived near there I would walk it every day!

My husband is an avid runner and one of his main requirements as to where we move is that its got to be somewhere with running trails/areas so Im curious if anyone has any ideas or knows if a certain area of Charlotte has better better running than others?

Try McAlpine Greenway near Highway 51 and Johnston Road in So. Charlotte (4 miles out, 4 back for a total of 8.) Ft. Mill has the springs greenway. mostly trails, not sure of the total distance. Matthews/Charotte has the McAlpine Greenway running between Sardis and Monroe (and on to Independence) where I easily get 10 miles in an out-and-back course.
