I understand that Fresh Market is replacing a Harris Teeter in Cornelius. I am not familiar with the store. What is it like. How does it compare with Trader Joe's or Whole Foods?

Fresh Market is to Trader Joe's as Country Club Membership is to Gym Membership. You will get a workout at either one, but the Country Club is gonna cost you a whole lot more, will serve Perrier, will have a private sauna, and you can schedule a massage after your Pilates Class - for about twice the regular price.
It'll sure be nice to not have to drive down to the store on Pineville-Matthews road. Having lived in the Piedmont Triad area for a while, a local Fresh Market is something we've missed living in Huntersville.
I love how they shape the fresh ground pork into the shape of a pig, with the little ears and the cherry tomatoes for the eyes.
I would equate Fresh Market as more like Dean & Deluca. It's a gourmet supermarket.
It's gourmet and it is quite expensive. However, they do carry brands and products that are difficult (if not impossible) to find elsewhere.
I could never depend on a Fresh Market as my primary grocery store, but they make a nice addition. Been a customer since the 80s (in another part of state). Nice deli and meat selection, but even on sale . . . prices are high. That said . . . I can always find such things as really nice prosciutto there.
I do not think it is as high end as Dean and Deluca. I do think it is a bit pricey, but the quality is above that of Harris Teeter and Lowe's As an aside, I have been somewhat disappointed by the quality and prices at Harris Teeter and even more so at Lowe's.
Fresh Market is not for regular shopping nor is it "organic" like Whole Foods. For those from the DC area, I would liken it to Sutton Place Gourmet, but not quite as pricey either. I guess if you were having a special dinner or something....
I shop a bit at the Fresh Market on Pineville-Matthews Rd. While I would never do a major stock up the pantry kind of shopping trip there, it is handy when we need a few things. They have a great selection of dark chocolate bars.
For the ex NYer's Fresh Market is what we compared to Gristedes/Food Emporium. I love it though, there's nothing more refreshing than meat laid out perfectly. Prices are high, but the cuts are superb. They carry a lot of hard to find things and it's the perfect store for a cook who love to make gourmet meals. Great olives for that martini...
Have to agree with the comments on here fresh market is great for some items, would not do my grocery shopping there but would but meat and some harder to find to find items.
