Info on what? Its a suburb of Charlotte. You might want to start by using the search feature to read the many existing threads on Matthews. For example:

https://www.city-data.com/forum/charl...-matthews.html
https://www.city-data.com/forum/charl...lkability.html

Why Matthews? Are you moving for a job? Where is the job?

Thanks for the links. I had already searched and read most of those, but didn't find much more than info on traffic and a few basic comments.

We are moving to get out of the big city and be closer to family. My husband has family in Greensboro (he grew up there), Raleigh and Mint Hill. We both work remotely, so there are no commute issues to consider.

We'd like to be near the family in Mint Hill, so were considering Matthews and Mint Hill, but thought Matthews might be a better fit.

I was just looking for some general information, advice, and perspective on life in Matthews.

We are looking for a quiet, safe neighborhood in a good school district. We'd like .5 - 1 acre. We are interested in gardening, being outdoors a lot, taking our baby to the park and on nature walks. I like the idea of being closer to the "downtown" but am still trying to figure out what areas would be a good fit.

The one day I had in Matthews was pouring rain so amounted to no more than a quick trip to the farmers market and a coffee.

Can't comment on schools but Matthews is a pretty good area overall. Only issue is traffic when trying to commute to and from Uptown (downtown) Charlotte. You're pretty much forced to use Independence Blvd, which is always a pain.

You could do worse than Matthews, but like everything, depends what you want. I came from London over the past 10 years, so Matthews for me is quaint, but extremely 'boring'. The market just doesn't compare in any sense to what's around London (Burrough, Camden, Billingsgate), - but that's an unfair comparison.

There is a nice small community lawn were they have Food Truck Fridays - it's very family friendly, features a guitarist or two, grab a snack from the dozen or so vans, pull up a blanket, kids roll around in the grass and play in the sand, loads of families chilling out everywhere, you get the picture. On a nice warm evening, it's not South Bank on the Thames, but with two toddlers, perfect.

Carolina Beer Temple....craft beer heaven :-) There are some really nice greenways/walkways/parks around Matthews. Cigar shop, good BBQ place (apparently, I've not been there) and a very old school hardware store which I love.

If you do work 'uptown' (as it's called here)....no bones about it, the commute sucks. I try zig zagging in to avoid Providence Rd, which is the other arterial from out this way....Independence would just drive me nuts.

Good mum's groups if you're into that thing too and staying home.

Matthews is a great area. You can certainly get the .5-1 acre you are looking for depending on your price range. More land is available the further south you go and the further into Mint Hill you go. Matthews has a quaint downtown feel and still allows about 20-25 minutes to uptown. If you need any more information, let me know. I'm a Realtor who also lives in Matthews.

Matthews is a good area. But make sure you research the schools. I know your child is very young, but believe me, time goes fast and you don't want your child to get to Middle or High school age and then realize you don't like the schools they are zoned for. Yes, zoning can change, but the closer you live to the school the less chance of changing. Essentially I wouldn't choose a less desirable school than you want and hope you get re-zoned for something better. Chances are it won't happen.

We moved to the Charlotte area from the Los Angeles area 10 years ago. We chose to live in Marvin and it is very nice here but everything we do is in South Charlotte/Matthews, so we are now looking to sell the house in the Spring and move up that way.

Matthews is nice in many areas of Matthews, like anything, it depends on your needs, your price range, where you will be working, etc....

I lived up the road in Hampstead (Fitzjohns Rd.) Most parts of London is boring compared to Camden. Matthews is definitely a bit different in many ways. No market or canal. LOL!
