Sorry for another lawn question, but, this is our first house and a crazy year with the drought, water restrictions, etc.

We did not plant any grass in the fall and we have huge dirt spots so we need to plant grass.

One landscaper said to plant our grass seed BEFORE we put down pre-emergent chemicals.

The other landscaper said to put down the pre-emergent first and then plant grass.

Who is correct?

Thanks!

NO NO NO on the pre-emergent!!!! It will keep your grass seed from germinating!

Now Couponjack answered a lot of questions and gave some good advice on a thread in the last two weeks . . . If i can find that, I will come back and post you a link.

Default here is link on earlier discussion

Here is the link for the discussion on what to do about lawns this year. Read thru/ it and see if that answers some of your questions. It is really hard to know what to do. We were planning to put out grass seed this coming weekend and spread some straw over it.

Lawn Care Experts

Good luck. Maybe some others will good advice will post more ideas and info for us all.

I've seen many lawns green already (ones that are in full sun), so grass is growing...

Thanks guys.

I also talked to someone from Scotts who said just skip the pre-emergent this year if you are trying to plant grass. Frankly, I would rather look at green crab grass then a big brown dirt spot!

Go organic and treat your soil and put life back into it. This clay gets too compacted and creates an unhealthy lawn. If you are in new construction or a developed neighborhood, your soil likely has no life in it. Forget the chemicals, they only make it worse. Go to Organic Plant Healthcare for more information. They are opening several new locations around town and will be starting Ecommerce as well.
