Thinking of Palisades (Charlotte: day cares, area code, groceries)

Hello all. My family and I are moving to Charlotte next summer and are looking into moving to The Palisades. A few questions for those familiar with the area. Are there comparable communities in the region with similar amenities and proximity to the city? How far away are things like shopping, dining, groceries? Son will be 1 by then recommendations for day cares and pediatricians? Wife will be working in the 28217 area code southeast of downtown. Thanks for your time.
