Hello everyone. My family and I will be flying into Charlotte soon for a couple of days next month. What's the best spot to get a hotel that's close to restaurants and some scenery (attractions, museums, etc)? I was looking at downtown, but then I read uptown was better? We are bringing our teen daughter so we'll want to be able to do some things with her.

Thanks...

Charlotte's downtown is branded Uptown so Charlotte's Uptown = Downtown in most cities.

That is a good central location to stay for restaurants, bars, and museums. You also can access the light rail so you don't need to drive as often on unfamiliar streets.

Parking uptown on the weekends isn't that expensive either. So you might be able to save some $$ by staying outside the city and then just driving into the city and parking. South Park is a good area with a large mall and restaurants nearby. Concord is another similar area. Honestly you can knock out all the "cultural" areas in Uptown in a day, so staying uptown isn't really necessary. Levine Museum of the New South is a good cultural non-boring museum for your daughter (& you)...won't take more than 1-2 hours to go through. Honestly, your daughter's probably too old for the Science museum. Crowder's Mountain is a great morning hike. Whitewater center has a great set of zip lines if you have the time and money to spend an entire day there.

From where? Major city, suburb, or small town, and in which state? More info may help others provide more helpful insights, suggestions, etc.

I'm just visiting and will be there for about 2 days. I've never been there and looking for something to do on one of the days I'll be there. Any information will be helpful.

I would definitely recommend trying to stay in uptown if its not too pricey. You have Romare Bearden park, Nascar Hall of Fame, NoDa (North Davidson- some really good restaraunts), Southend (lots of breweries and food trucks), Dilworth (shops). Outside of the city you have Latta Plantation, Jetton Park, Whitewater Center, and Crowders Mountain if you are feeling adventurous.

Just wondering, what exactly makes you want to visit Charlotte? It is really not much of a tourist destination at all. There’s a few museums downtown, a whitewater rafting place, a couple plantations. Nothing extremely interesting.
