It's just me and my daughters this weekend and they want to go bowling and want me to bowl with them. They like the bumpers. I feel a bit weird bowling with bumpers as an adult. I know the newer type lanes have automatic bumpers that go in/out based on who's bowling. Does anyone know of any lanes in South Charlotte that are like that? If not, I'll just bowl with the bumpers...figured it was worth a shot to ask here first though.
Can you explain what a "bumper" is? I have never heard of them.
Bumpers are the rails that prevent the ball from going in the gutter, thus making gutter balls impossible and almost ensuring every ball knocks down some pins (assuming the ball gets to the pins!).

Any chance of getting two lanes? We used to do that when we had 4 or more bowling. We would get done faster that way. The kids who want/need to can use the "bumper" lane and you and any one else can use the other lane.

This sounds like another thing that should be illegal.
Life has gutters.
Learn how to stay out of them and do it early.

You obviously have not bowled with a child. Learn how to stay out of them is a great plan if it works, otherwise it just invites frustration and a long-term disinterest in the sport if they're only hitting the pins a few times per game. The same reasons kids start at tee ball, golf from the yellow tees, shoot at a lower hoop, play on smaller fields are the reasons bumpers are used. It encourages engagement and excitement while they learn the proper techniques after those handicaps are removed from the game.
