I am looking at a potential job opportunity in the Gastonia area. Based on Google maps, it looks like it’s possible to live in the Palisades area (25-30 min) or select neighborhoods in Tega Bay/Fort Mill (30-40 minutes) if you commute via the Buster Boyd bridge. I’ve mapped these routes at different times of the day and it seems pretty immune to rush hour. Is Buster Boyd bridge a reliable bridge for commuting or does it get backed up and/or close often for weather? Does it seem feasible to live in this area and work in Gastonia area if I’m ok with up to 45 minute commute?

I live in Kings Mountain. I'm very familiar with Gastonia. Gastonia area is vague. Is the job in Gastonia? Kings Mountain? Bessemer City?

Clover is not a bad commute to Gastonia, if you feel a need to live in SC.

The bridge is a non issue if you're heading into Gastonia, but Gastonia encompasses a large territory. As the other poster noted, where in Gastonia?

If you are OK with 45 minutes, I think you should be OK. But you probably want to be pretty close to 49 and definitely west of I-77.

Great info on the bridge, thanks! Job would be in Gastonia, should have deleted the word ‘area’ in the OP. Thanks!

Thank you! Yes, ideally I’d be closer to a 30 min commute but I’m ok with 45. My current commute is getting so bad with traffic/rush hour, that an hour is not uncommon. Moving to an area where I can avoid the headaches and uncertainty of rush hour congestion is appealing!

I reverse commute from Huntersville to Kings Mountain for work. I can easily and reliably get from my house to the Cox Road exit in Gastonia in a little less than 30 minutes.

There's so much construction going on in Gastonia that it could be anywhere.

Usually when people are looking in Ft Mill they are citing schools and or taxes as the reason. Keep in mind that we ask questions to better answer questions, not to judge you. Right now I can think of at least half a dozen places that you might be working at scattered all over Gastonia. That's without putting any effort into it. We don't need the name of the potential employer, but if you can tell us what part of town we can answer your questions better.
