Oh! All of you fashionistas! All of my current menswear is stuff Goodwill would reject! Luggage - What's wrong with using those plastic Food Lion and Bi-Lo bags? I make Ed Begley's wardrobe look like an Armani Store!

High end fashion places operate on one simple principle.

A fool and their money are soon parted.

How true! A lot of that stuff will make an appearance at overstock.com in this economy. There will be a lot of banker's wives that will be more concerned with mortgage payments than Manolo Blahniks in short order!

+1

I will not deny that I do enjoy a few nice things, but most high-end fashion is a complete joke. Other than swiss watches, fine italian shoes, or a few other things actually made by skilled craftsperson, the high end clothing/accessories are made in the same factory as the low end. I'm in the textile business and have seen it first hand dozens if not hundreds of times. $200-300 jeans are made alongside $29 pairs. It was not this way until the late 80s/early 90s (luxury was truly separated), but the push for more and more profit led to strong consolidation across a broad range ($) of manufacturing.

To the person 'so tired of having to drive to Atlanta' to have the latest label, I recommend this book:

Deluxe: How Luxury Lost Its Luster

You know - the thing about designer labels . . . there are so many knock offs . . . why bother?

I mean . . . if it made me feel special to buy a Louis Vuitton handbag . . . forget it . . . cause I walk around and see hundreds of them these days - and you know most of the people carrying them have knock-offs. (or used their Katrina debit cards to buy one, Hee Hee - remember that story???)

But back to the topic . . . if I could add something to SP mall . . . it would be Bloomingdales. And I would love a Saks, too. Do I frequent those stores? Yep. Love to check them out . . . but I only buy MARK DOWNS. So not having them here is not a huge issue for me.
