Before COVID hit, it was a minimum of 50 minutes for me in Mooresville and I'm off exit 31 (so only 6 miles from Birkdale's exit 25). It's taken as much as over two hours when an accident happens and can easily be over an hour.
With that said, asking now won't really help you get a good gauge of it considering most of Uptown Charlotte is still working from home. I expect it to be even worse once we go back to the office because there's been non stop building of new homes over the last two years.
If he plans to spend a small fortune using the toll lanes every day, sure, it wont be bad but if he doesn't, it's going to suck. The toll lanes didn't really help much since there's very few that use them.
At this point, I don't know that there's very many good places to live for an easy commute to uptown.
