My wife and I are relocating from the Chicago suburbs down to the Charlotte area. We have 2 young kids (5 and 3) and are looking for a good setup for our family. We have toured The Club at Longview and liked it and liked some of the homes we toured. Is it a good club and neighborhood for families? Any general feedback on The Club at Longview would also be appreciated. Thanks!
Great club for families, their golf course is pretty impressive, they offer multiple summer programs for children, and the location is nearby shopping, dining, pretty much anything you could need within 3 miles in any direction. 30-45 minutes into uptown. The area is busy with Waverly, Rea Farms, Blakeney and Stonecrest in the immediate vicinity, but if you don’t mind the bustling traffic then it’s more family oriented than Providence CC. I’d also recommend Ballantyne CC if you’re looking for a club that is good for the whole family in the area…also offers tons of shopping and restaurant options at Ballantyne Village and with the Ballantyne Reimagined initiative kicking off there will be additional attractions and food/music venues on the horizon. But again, traffic through Ballantyne is heavy as well. The home styles are also very different between the two clubs, Ballantyne has more traditional southern brick styling whereas Longview offers more tudors and provincial styling.
Those are all excellent suggestions from Mikey, I'd also add Firethorne Country Club if you want a bit less traffic.
I also have a thought regarding the school UCPS serves both Longview and Firethorne (although a small part of Firethorne is in SC.
I would think Firethorne would have almost zero chance of being redistricted to another school based on the location.

Good point about the school impacts when looking at the various CCs down through there. That has been a major driving/deciding factor for a TON of my clients. I don’t have children, so I won’t diminish the opinions of those who are actually sending their children to these schools, but in general the schools across those southern Charlotte metro country clubs are all very highly rated according to greatschools online, so I don’t personally understand the hype of one over the other, but it is important to consider, as Longview does skate much closer to existing school district map lines.

I heartily agree with you, the Union County distribution of those CCs will be primarily between Weddington and Marvin Ridge. Neither of which would be a deal breaker for 99.9% of people. Of course, regardless of how highly rated the public schools can be, the potential to move from one to another may be cause for concern with some parents. I would guess the ideal would be no moves from k-6 at least. Of course, changing schools, even among those highly rated at higher grades is cause for concern..... school sports teams, class rankings, new teen drivers on the road longer, friendships, etc.
Of course, there are Private or Charter options, but the value of your home is somewhat dependent upon the school district it's assigned whether you use public or not.
Be glad we don't have those decisions to fret over! Well, you through default of your profession. LOL
