If you're willing to look at cities smaller than Charlotte, I highly recommend you look at Belmont, NC, (the town, not the section of Charlotte).

Traffic congestions is about the same from Harris blvd all the way to Mooresville, so AM is spot on with Cornelius being the sweetspot.
