If you wanna save on taxes (which I am sure upper class could care less about), stick to Catawba or Lincoln County.

Well said.. Towards Denver, NC there are some nice places too, but once you come out on to main roads from them you are in Denver, which these days is kinda ugly and depressing..

We are also considering the Cornelius area and have a couple of questions related to this original post...

1. What is the approximate time from The Peninsula to CLT airport at 6-7 am?

2. Have heard lots of bad things about Charlotte Meck schools... How is the selection of private/parochial schools in the vicinity of the Peninsula?

3. Any decent restaurants or bars in the vicinity of the Peninsula other than at the Peninsula Club?

Thanks!!

6-7 am there is very little in the way of traffic...maybe 30 minutes. The schools are not bad up in the area and there are plenty of private schools as well. Anywhere from 10,000-20,000 a year.

Lots of restaurants in and around the area - I do not drink but there are plenty of those too.

I live in the Peninsula...way down by the Yacht Club.

I travel to the airport 2-3x a month. At 8am it's 40 min - 7am would be around 30-35 depending on how much you speed on 485. Rain - or god forbid - light snow, add 5 hours to any commute

Schools are excellent (2 kids). Cornelius Elementary, Bailey Middle, Hough High (2-3 yrs old) - all high marks. Plenty of people use private schools and have heard positive things, but can't personally comment there.

No shortage of bars/restaurants. For both of the Peninsula Clubs (which are separate fees/ownership), they work for members. Jack's, Mac's, Brooklyn South Pizza, Tenders, 131 Main, Port City, Alton's, Big Daddy's, Taco Mac (now T-Mac), Eez Sushi, Brixx Pizza, Hickory Tavern...etc. are all great and <10 min driving. That is just the ones we frequent/love. Then there is Saeed's which you'll be lead to at some point if you fall in with a fun crowd....and Rusty Rudder.

There are a few great ones in M-ville (Curuso's Italian, Epic Chop House) and Davidson (Brickhouse, Toast) as well. There is rarely a need to travel downtown (Amelie's in NoDa!) for food/booze.

Holler if you have any other specifics. Great neighborhood, although a bit on the older side (we are mid-30s w/ two young kiddos 4/6)

All taxes outside real-estate are identical for Catawba, including the 2%-6% food tax, and the real estate aren't THAT different..

I'll give you this though: You're the first one pushing Mooresville on this forum that could actually give logical, or even any, reasoning for boasting the city based on the subject of the thread.. Those neighborhoods are some of the best upscale neighborhoods in region.

Hi There,

We have just moved back to NC, we lived in Durham/Chapel Hill previously-- went north to WI for a few years and now we are back. We are renting at the moment-- deciding where to buy a home. We are looking for a engaged neighborhood-- a place where people get together for cook outs, easter egg hunts, halloween parties etc. We have a soon to be 3 yo. I am wondering what preschools you would recommend and how you feel about the neighborhoods close to your area in Cornelius-- friendly? Engaged? We love Jetton Park and the feel of the hilly neighborhoods in that area.

Thanks!
