My family recently relocated to Charlotte (again) and are in the process of looking for a house in the North Charlotte/Mallard Creek area. We took a drive through the Villages of Leacroft last night and really liked what we saw. It seemed like the neighborhood was relatively new with good landscaping, upkept homes and lots of young families out and about. There are several homes for sale in our price range ($200-$225k). I was just wondering if anyone here either lives in or is familiar with the neighborhood and can offer any likes/dislikes that we should no about. Thanks.

For some reason I cannot picture the neighborhood. Who is the builder?

This is not a new neighborhood - it was built in the mid to late 90's. The builder was John Crosland and Centex. It is very community oriented and a nice place to live. It is in a desirable area with a good school district.

The neighborhood is located on Prosperity Church Road, just north of Tradition Golf Club and roughly across from Wellington subdivision. Its not a big sub., maybe 100-200 homes. We plan to see 4 houses with our realtor on Saturday.

No then that's not a new community at all as previously stated. Nice area though.

My best friend lives in Villages of Leacroft. They had a rash of burglaries on their street last year, including her house. The burglars stole everything, including her newborn son's diapers. One owner down the street from her was injured because he was home when the burglars broke in. It's been quiet on her street since then. Of course the police never caught anyone.

She and her husband still likes the neighborhood for the most part. It's family-friendly and she said most of the neighbors are very nice; however, they still suspect one of the neighbors of being connected to the robberies, but they were never able to prove anything. It's not an option for them to sell, so they are staying put.

I would definitely check out the latest crime statistics at the CMPD website.

I live across the street in Rolling Oaks. We've been here 10 years. The area is great. Everyday I see people using the the sidewalks along Prosperity Church. As far as the neighborhood, I use know some people in there, but they've moved, years ago. It seems like a normal neighborhood for this area, young new families to middle and upper 40's. I don't know much about the crime there, our neighborhood is not immune to it either. Most of the crimes here are in cul-de-sacs, very few on the main roads, and we have alert neighbors - me being one of them - and of course my two dogs. The schools are great, Mallard Creek Elementary has grown alot and the scores have increased over the years, the Principal is leaving though. Alexander Middle School...? it's okay, it was good, but has become very overcrowded, and I haven't been to impressed with the Principal. There is a new middle school opening in 2009 on Ridge Road, they have not drawn the borders yet. Mallard Creek HS, that's where my two boys go, we love it. Had some issues with teachers, but overall great staff and admin. We were at Vance and no complaints there either. This is a really great area. I 485 will be complete in 2015, which will be near the Bi-Lo......that's usually a good thing for real estate . Prosperity Church Road is like a speedway though, it's 35 mph by our entrance, and people DONT go that speed. Sometimes I find it hard to make the U-turn, I'm sure I've pissed off a few people, but oh well Good Luck.

Thank you everyone for the helpful insight. We'll go ahead and look at several houses in Leacroft this weekend. We do really like the Mallard Creek area.
