We are moving to Harrisburg in 2 weeks. My husband is a NYC Dept of Sanitation retiree. We currently have GHI/Blue Cross. I know that there are VERY few, if any doctors in the area that accept GHI, but we cannot change benefits until October. I guess that if we need to see a dr. before then I will have to use a doctor, pay out of pocket and then try to submit the bill to GHI as an out of network visit, but what happens if one of us needs hospital care? Will we have a problem with coverage in an emergency hospital situation? Also, is anyone opting to use the Aetna HMO plan that the city offers (at a cost)? If so, are you happy with the plan? TIA!

For some reason when somebody identifies themselves as being from up North (especially NYC) that Southern hospitality and charm, they talk about so much about kind of disappears.
However, "Google" Harrisburg, N.C. and find which respective hospital is closest and in your vicinity. Then telephone said hospital and inquire as to your respective insurance coverage's and billing procedures. This should give you an overall and accurate assessment of your hospital care concerns. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Hi, I am a retired NYC Sanitation worker. My wife has been on my Health Benefits but she is currently retiring from Department of Ed. She submitted her paper work for picking up her own Health Benefits, the application was shot out of computer. We believe we have to remove her from my health benefits in order to be picked up by Dept. of Ed. How do we do this and will she be picked up by DOE?

Thank You,

You have posted on the Charlotte, NC board. I doubt anyone on this board will be able to help you. You might try posting on the NYC board, or on the Health Insurance Board. My advise would be to contact your wife's HR department and see if they can assist you.
