I am relocating to Charlotte from Little Rock, AR. I need to know what are the reasonably priced safe areas of Charlotte? In Little Rock of course, we have crime, you just have to know where to stay away from. So what places should I look at and what places should I stay away from? Suburbs are fine, just as long as they are not more than 10 minutes out.

10 min out from where? Charlotte is a HUGE city in land area. What do you consider reasonably priced? This varies so widely from place to place and person to person, that you have to give a price range. If you're talking Uptown, then 10 min out will get you ....Uptown.

About 180000 would be good, I mean not more than 10 minutes out from Charlotte. And what are the good and bad areas?

If you're looking for 10 mins out, you're looking at Dilworth, South End, Chantilly, Elizabeth, Plaza-Midwood, etc.

Not what I would call suburbs, rather they are city neighborhoods.

Price range and where you will work are HUGE considerations as to where you buy/live.

Where is your job location? You have to understand, Charlotte has a downtown (which we call uptown) but not all businesses are located there. We have many businesses in sections of the city located all over, miles from actual uptown. So, when you say "10 minutes" we have to know 10 minutes from WHERE???

Oh, I'm retired. So the work thing really isn't a problem for me. I just want to know what areas are best.

Well the next question would be, how much are you looking to spend?

Also, how big is Charlotte? I guess I didn't really see how big it was. I've been to big cities, no small towner here, but doesn't it have a light rail? I have a car, but is the light rail safe to use?

You are going to have to be much more descriptive in what you are looking for before anyone here can really help you. Charlotte is a huge city and made up of many neighborhoods and suburbs.

If by no more than 10 minutes out, you mean from uptown, I'm afraid 180k won't find you much - atleast in a safe area. You will either need to add a couple hundred thousand to your price, or about 20 minutes to your proximity.

As Jerry Maguire said "Help me help you"....

condo/house?
interests?
