I've lived in several different states, and this is the ONLY place I've ever seen ambulances and fire trucks drive the wrong way in a lane of traffic. It is hideously dangerous. Does no good to hurry recklessly to an accident and cause another on the way!
Fire truck hits SUV on South Blvd. | www.charlotteobserver.com (broken link)
Probably the same driver that came at me head-on!!!
Geez.
Same area as your event, makes you wonder about their training...
"The collision happened about 10:20 a.m. a short distance south of Woodlawn Road. The Charlotte Fire Department truck was northbound on South Boulevard and appeared to be responding to an emergency by driving in a southbound lane. It struck an SUV head-on."
When was the last time someone taught you to drive? When you were sixteen, most people don't even make it to the DMV every year. I'm curious to find out who's gonna be found at fault.

I'll put my bet on the SUV getting a ticket...
Of course the SUV driver will get a ticket rightly or wrongly because the Fire dept/city of Charlotte won't want to admit to any liabilty.
By giving the SUV a ticket it essentially spells out the best form of defense is an offense.......
I would bet that the SUV did not have anyone actively driving the vehicle, even though the drivers seat was occupied. Texting, reading, talking on the phone, changing the radio, playing with their navigation device, drinking their latte, applying make-up, changing cloths, or any of a myriad of other tasks people do instead of driving.
I think this is a different situation from what happened to the OP.
There's a comment made by someone in that link at 5:21 who said he saw it. If his story is accurate then the SUV driver is at fault. Unfortunately many ppl don't stop when they see a firetruck and just keep moving along trying to beat the fire truck. (Or who knows what they are thinking). On the other hand if he just didnt see the fire truck (for some reason) then he's just SOL.
