Hi I'm new to the area and am looking for a place of my own! I am looking for a home to buy in a SAFE neighborhood - even a gaited community. I do have two beautiful and well manned american pit bull terriers. Where are the dog friendly sections of town that DON'T discriminate against pits? What neighborhoods should I avoid?

One of my pits is a trained service dog - so he can go with me anywhere... I'm worried about my Chisel though, as he is just a pet and doesn't have federal law "protecting" him from uneducated HOAs.

Is there anything fun for people and their pooches to do here in charlotte? Any malls or shopping centers that allow dogs? What parks are dog friendly?

Thanks in advance!

Price range? You won't find many gated communities. There are some but usually $1mil and up price range. Dogs can't go to malls or shopping centers unless it's a service dog. You can bring them to some outdoor cafe's.

As far as fun places to bring your dog with you, the Dog Bar, in NODA, allows people to bring their pets while they have a drink. I'm not sure if they have breed limitations there...I don't believe so.

I wouldn't think that gated communities would permit pit bulls. No dis-respect but most people don't want them in their neighborhoods...especially where there are children. They are not permitted in our building Uptown...neither are rotweillers (sp?).

Good Luck!

Their are lots of dog friendly spots in Charlotte. There is a dog bakery and shop on S. Tryon in Southend, the Dog Bar, Smelly Cat Coffee House on 36th St. in Noda lets you bring your dogs in ... or sit on the patio, they provide dog bowls and treats!, There are also good dog walks for the Humane Society an other groups spread out over the year so keep your eyes out for those. You might like Chantilly... they actually have a park that has dog meet-ups after work. If your dogs are nice everyone will love them. I have two pit bulls and they are the nicest, smartest and smilingest dogs ... I love them.

As a general rule, like everywhere else, dogs aren't allowed in stores. Unfortunately, those with dogs small enough to fit in a pocket book tend to overlook those rules, while those of us with larger dogs cannot. Definitely a pet peeve of mine. The rule is in place because of hygiene concerns.
