OK. But where do we begin with so little information? Tell us a little about where you will work. Do you like urban-surburban? Driving? Rent? Own? Kids?
Single?

Give us a fighting chance to help you. There are A LOT of smart people that live here on this board. You're in good hands.

Default Charlotte relocation

I guess a little background would help. I am a single, 35 year old accountant with no children. I've always loved the culture and friendliness of the southern people, not to mention a warmer climate. I love the diverse cultures of a larger city and value the art/theater scene as much as getting back to nature. I would like to rent for a while, before buying, until I get a feel for the area of which both suburban or urban would be options. Some main reasons for wanting to move: icy winters & Ohio people. My main concern of Charlotte: Finding a job in the current economy.

Hi, Annie!

To start w/ . . . my understanding is that Cincinnati has a diverse culture and a pretty active arts scene as compared to CLT. My thought has always been that Cin. was a good choice for me if I left CLT, LOL. (I don't mind cold weather, for one thing). Have you ever spent time in CLT?

You really need to come here and check it out b/f deciding to move here. For one thing, our economy is not booming . . . we are not sure where things are headed here, much like the rest of the country.

We hope CLT has the reputation of a friendly area, but CLT is not "the South" so much as it is an evolving New South city. We have more newcomers than natives who now live in CLT, wh/ I believe is a good thing . . . as we are all working together to create a great place to live, work and play. But you are as likely to run into someone who has moved here in the last 5 -10 years as you are to meet longtime locals. Charlotte tends to be a family-oriented, burb-centric area. Yes, our uptown neighborhoods are growing and changing (a lot of gentrification, wh/ is probably a good thing). I think we will see more people choosing to live in the urban sections of CLT over the next decade. However, this whole region is in a period of rapid evolution . . . and you really need to get a feel for your comfort zone w/ a visit.

We are advising people not to make the move w/o a job . . .

Not trying to discourage you from moving here, but since I know a bit about Cincinnati . . . there may be things you will miss that you take for granted now . . . so you need to spend some time here b/f jumping in and making a major life change w/ a move.

Also let us know what your peak interests are and price range. As Ani said, job is key and right now Charlotte is sturggling a bit, but Accountants are needed in so many places usually and are so adaptable, I think you should find good luck. Once that is done, you will know where you will be working, even something as simple as North and South can open up many areas. Do you like Lakes or shopping (or both). Downtown areas or more rural? Also a visit would seem to be in order, but I can understand wanting to leave OH its got tough times ahead as well.
