I thought the city was broke? Too broke to repave roads, too broke to prosecute criminals, too broke to hire more 911 operators.....

I heard on the radio this morning that the extra money will be coming from an increase in hotel/motel taxes and not from the current city treasury.

Is anyone surprised by this. Our local city leaders always jump into something before getting a complete picture.

I've not been in Charlotte long enough to know how the construction of the arena was funded... where did that money come from? Was there a tax increase?

Lately, there's been a tax increase in Charlotte whenever there's not an election. There are city tax increases, and then there are county tax increases.

What is the return on investment on this project? I have heard nothing about that. That is the question and indeed, the bottom line.

I don't find this surprising at all. Why would you over-estimate a bid and finish the project cheaper when your competition can under-estimate a bid and secure it and start construction and whoops, we're over budget already!
