Hi All. We'll be moving to the Wesley Oaks Centex community at the beginning of April from the Cincinnati area. My son, who's in first grade, would have gone to Wesley Chapel Elementary, but they're at maximum capacity, so they're telling us he has to go to Weddington Elementary for the rest of the year, and then will go to New Town Elementary (the new school) next year. Anyone else in this situation?
I'm fearful about moving him to a new school towards the end of the school year, but it's unavoidable. I'm trying to determine whether I should sign him up for spring sports (soccer?) or if there's anything else I can do to get him engaged and excited about our move. Any advice is appreciated.
Will anyone else be sending their kids to New Town Elementary next year? Thank you!

Skar, Weddington elementry is excellent, I wouldnt worry about it too much, as Im sure the other kids from your development may be going there as well??? I would definately get him involved in extra activies where he can make some new friends....we will moving as well not sure yet if it will be toward the end of the school year or at the end here middle of June but either way my kids will have to start a new....for instance my son if we move in the next few months will have to go to Kennisington for Middle school beause Marvin Ridge Middle isnt open yet, but it will be for fall 07 school year, with that said he too would have to transition into a new school as well for 7th grade they all adapt pretty well at the end...

I wouldn't worry too much about this - there will be tons of kids transitioning from Weddington to New Town next year when New Town opens and the nice thing about New Town is all of the kids there will be new to the school

Donna we are looking to buy in Hunter Oaks, its NOT in Wesley Chapel, and the elementary school right now is Marvin, and the middle is marvin Ridge but they are housed in kensington, and Middle Ridge HS...the mailing address for Hunter Oaks is Waxhaw...

Hunter Oaks is in Wesley Chapel but uses Waxhaw's zip code. Check out Lennar.com for info. The school district for us is Weddington Elem and Middle.

Hunter Oaks goes to Marvin Elementary this year and Rea Road Elementary next year. Also, Donna if you are moving to Hunter Oaks you will not notice any sewer smells (I just noticed that you posted in that thread) - those fumes only effect the area immediately surronding the plant which miles south of Hunter Oaks.

NJ - here is a post I found about Hunter Oaks from another poster that will help you out.

"I am almost positive Weddington has the highest household income in the state of NC- . Home values are also slightly higher, although I've seen the homes they are building in Wesley Chapel and Marvin are over a million-

The town of Weddington (well there isn't much of a town center) is small. The roads cannot handle the traffic flow. They are building a new library soon as well. The roads are lovely and there are beautiful older developments and lots of horse farms. The schools are excellent one of the best districts in the state of NC

"Waxhaw is also booming- although the town itself is so much older. My opinion is that the demographics are changing rapidly. There is just so much housing and commercial/retail development that waxhaw will never be the same! There is lower income mixed with middle class and upper- in Waxhaw
Waxhaw is in Union County but it also extends up to the South Charlotte (mecklenburg county). You could live in off Rea Road in Hunter Oaks but be 15 minute drive from downtown waxhaw.
Also I am in Wesley Chapel and we have the Waxhaw zip code because Wesley Chapel doesn't have a post office

the future growth is everywhere in union county waxhaw and weddington - although from what I read in the paper, I think they are putting a halt to future building in weddington due to the lack of space and schools- . until they have a good plan"

Hunter Oaks is not in Wesley Chapel. You can look at a zoning map found on the website for union county public schools if you have any questions about this. They give a great lay out of western union county.
