Does anyone know anything or have any feedback on the various South Charlotte SAT Test Preparation companies such as Briarcliff Hall or Carolina Test Prep? Thanks.

Have you tried checking with your high school guidance department for recommendations? (Our school has info on the website). At our high school, there are test prep classes available at the high school (taught by teachers from the school), or information links to Kaplan test prep on the website.

My experience is that you can't study for the test, but you can familiarize yourself with the test format. You either know that stuff or you don't at this point.

Practically all book stores have books for studying for the SAT. Check Books A Million or the mall.

I will second the book store idea...

I used a study guide from Barnes and Noble for my GRE years ago and it definitely boosted my score. They have interactive CDs that simulate the 'test experience' and I found it very helpful.

Also, I would recommend finding a list of the SAT "power words" and make flashcards. Glossing up on vocabulary is a very good way to increase your score dramatically...

As for the math... practice practice practice. It's helpful to realize that the math questions usually have shortcut methods that will quickly lead to the correct answer. If a HS student gets to calculus in high school there is no reason for them not to score perfectly on the math section...

Good luck.

Way back in the olden days when I took my SATs, I picked up Barron's SAT prep book and found it to be quite helpful. I used their books to prep for GREs later on too.

I couldn't remember the prep guide I used, thanks for reminding me... Barrons is also the ones who published the list of "power words".
