I am relocating from Denver and I have heard it is very humid in Charlotte. I guess my question is, how far is Charlotte from the mountains/ hill country? Is there a city that gets cooler weather than Charlotte in the summer, but still close enough to commute?
Thanks,
DenverGuy

Hickory is nice but it would be an hour + commute to Charlotte.

We moved to Charlotte from Colorado Springs-- humidity can be very oppressive here, especially compared to the front range. Charlotte isn't really close to the mountains for commuting, and unfortunately, I've noticed even the mountains here are humid. The good news is you don't have to lotion up all the time!

If humidity is a problem for you, you might want to reconsider moving to the southeast. I can't think of a single city, town or rural area that isn't humid at times.

The entire east coast is wet. Hickory is only a few degrees cooler. None of them are a short drive to Charlotte. You need to be up in the Mts. like Boone or Ashville to get any cooler weather. 2-2.5 hrs from Charlotte.

True. The average yearly relative humidity does not vary greatly across the state. About a 10% difference from highest to lowest. However, the summertime comfort level does.

NC's elevation goes from sea level to 6,684 feet. The average daily high for Charlotte in July is 90.1 degrees, while 100 aeronautical miles to the west in the Asheville area, it's 83.3 degrees. 748 feet vs. 2,165 feet above sea level.

Warmest NC Weather Station - Wilmington, annual average temp 63.8F

Coolest NC Weather Station - Mount Mitchell, annual average temp 43.8F
