We are relocating to Charlotte from Cherry Hill NJ. Are there any parents to special needs kids out there that can tell me their experiences with the schools. I don't know where I should be looking for her best interest.
Thanks
Clare

There have been some other threads on special needs students but I think mostly dealing w/ autism. Is your child autistic? I can find you some links on autism but not sure about other special needs and how much they have been addressed.

When I was moving from Canada (grew up in the Carolinas) to NC I called the National Organzations and got NC branches of interest. Meaning, my son is Autistic, I ended up in touch with the NC Autism Society. They were very helpful in telling me which schools failed and which one were great. We moved into the top district near the two top Elementry Schools once we met with them and talked to them about our needs.

Can you do something like that? Also, call the districts and talk to the Special Ed Depts and see what they can tell you.

I agree with emagine. When we relocated last year I contacted both the school districts in the Mooresville area and spoke to the Exceptional Children's Directors. My son has Asperger's Syndrome (on autistic spectrum) and we settled on the Mooresville Graded Schools. We have been happy with the support he has received. I think the district you ultimately choose is going to be based on your child's particular needs.
