Could someone please recommend a good jewelry store in the Charlotte area?

Have you had any any experience with Helzburg, Reed, Jared, Kay, etc?

Thanks!

I stay away from the "Chains" and Mall Stores (Jared, Reed etc..)

I emphatically recommend Skatells which is located outside the Carolina Place Mall in Pineville. They are the best!!!!

Ohhh, little blue Tiffany box.

I just read about Morrison Smith Jewelers, might have been Charlotte Magazine. Anyways, they are a nice family owned store, Smith's bought it from the Morrison's and the store has been around for a long time and sounds very reputable. I would try them before I went to a mall store, I think you will get a nicer quality of gems.

Diamonds Direct across from South Park, hands down biggest selection and best prices.

Hi Jake,

Thanks for your input. Just out of curiosity, what's wrong with those chain/mall stores? High price and bad service?

I second the vote for Diamonds Direct. Bought my wife's ring there. Best prices in town for the same color, clarity, size, etc. I priced Karat Patch and a few others. Diamonds Direct will also price match other store prices if you do, somehow, find a lower price.

My wife has since recommended them to her coworkers, so on and so on.
If you're looking for a diamond, you won't find a better deal in Charlotte.

All the sales staff are good, but I worked with Michelle Pavlakos.

They also let you pick out a diamond, put a small deposit on it and pay on it monthly, weekly, whatever...

besides Tiffany's. Lots of bad stories!

Diamonds Direct also price matches online retailers like bluenile.com
I saved about $350 extra dollars this way.
Plus, if you buying an engagement ring, the mounting is free (gold or white gold).

AND...lets say you pay $5000 for a ring today. And want to upgrade your wife in 3 years. The trade in value they'll give you in $5000. Your ring doesn't depreciate with them.
