This summer, I am interning for an acg firm in uptown Charlotte and have decided to stay in a furnished Post Gateway apt w/out the ability to visit the area first. What would be the best way to commute to work (walk, bus?). Any advice on close places to shop, eat, etc. Also, I have some concerns about safety...in this area, is it safe to walk at night to and from uptown? Thanks in advance!

Post sounds like the deal. You are right next door to Johnson & Wales culinary school! Harris Teeter grocery is not too far away. Try to get a copy of Uptown magazine that will provide you with lots of info. http://www.uptownclt.com/. Here is another link you will find helpful http://www.charlottecentercity.org/home.cfm. Those should get you off on the right foot.

As for safety, just use common sense and be aware of your surroundings. From Post to uptown is a major road, Trade St, I would use that as my main thorouhfare to Uptown. If unsure Trade St has frequent bus service.

Dont work too hard and have fun this summer!

You will be minutes away from uptown, so walking to and from work is definitely an option. Unless you are working after 11:00PM or something, the area should be rather lively with restaurant/bar patrons along Trade Street.
