My family may be relocating to Charlotte in the next month or so for my husband's job. We have two young children - ages 2.5 and 1 - and for the time being we want to rent a home in the southern area of town. I need help finding the right town to live in... Matthews, Myers Park, Dilworth. My husband will be working out of the home - so commute time really isn't a problem. I just want a community that looks less "planned" - nothing cookie cutter. We're looking in the $1200 - $1500/month range for at least a 3/2. Any advice?
Finding a house like you have described in those areas is not going to be easy. Just mark Myers Park off that list right up front. Dilworth . . . doubt it. Matthews - not sure.
You really are going to have to spend some time here. Even looking in classified ads and on Craig's list is gonna be risky. I would never rent something sight unseen. You could have a major highway in your front yard or a Section 8 apartment behind you.

You can probably try negotiating on rents too. Hope this helps!
Do you plan on renting long? If so, why would it matter what the house looks like? Just curious, I knwo safe and pleasant neiborhood is key, but what if it was cookie cutter.
Try:
Madison Park
Beverly Woods
Huntingtowne Farms
All three of those are in the nice southpark area but should be in your price range and are not "cookie cutter" areas.
